Alexandre Gaudin (PhD)

Alexandre Gaudin is an ENGEES water and environmental engineer, with a specialization in the social management of water from CNEARC, and holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from EHESS.

His work draws on socio-anthropology to analyse transformations in natural-resource governance and environmental management arrangements.

• Lecturer and researcher in socio-anthropology within AgroParisTech’s Environmental Management Unit.
• Associate researcher at Montpellier Research in Management (MRM), University of Montpellier.
• Member of the Association for the Anthropology of Social Change and Development (APAD).
• Co-head of the BioGET Master’s programme.

His research focuses on natural-resource governance and the socio-anthropology of environmental management arrangements.

He analyses how public, private and civil-society organizations, as well as different social groups, intervene in access to natural resources and contribute to concrete forms of regulation.

His work pays particular attention to environmental management arrangements — contractual approaches, indicators and digital modelling —, their design and implementation, and their effects on governance.

By combining analysis of management arrangements with stakeholder analysis, he also studies the negotiated and conflictual production of knowledge about nature, in relation to the division of scientific labour, the appropriation of natural resources and the distribution of responsibilities between political, sovereign and management authorities.
