Today, it is evident that an effective, and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems has become a priority for the human race. However, the international community have been cooperating on this question for a century now, and have in the last forty years promoted the use of a range of environmental management tools, which evolve over time. A better understanding of the effects of these different systems of environmental governance, and the actual implementation of their methods have therefore become predominant questions for environmental research.

The research that we intend to undertake is primarily concerned with analysing and evaluating these methods and the way they are put into action. Its objective is to analyse systematically and in detail, the construction and the effectiveness of different environmental management tools which are currently being used in the Amazon.
