Dendrometry and forest inventory

Courses objectives

  • To provide the tools necessary for quantitative assessment of forest stands in tropical countries
  • To improve skills in data analysis and use of biomass models.

Course contents

  • Course
    • Dendrometry: the main quantitative parameters of tree and stand assessment; techniques and methods; construction of volume tables (cubing rates); production and potential of tree stands
    • Inventories: types of inventory and sampling, case studies
  • Application to the inventory of a Mediterranean forest (practical work), including
    • development of the method
    • data collection
    • data analysis
    • report writing by groups.
